Whirlpool offers a 1 year warranty (and some retailers, like Costco, offer an additional year at no charge) for every new appliance purchased from them starting on your purchase date. So what is included in this?
In the first 30 days, everything is covered. Installation issues, cosmetic issues, even having someone from our company come out and show you how to properly use your unit is covered, along with any repairs. It is very important to look over your machine and report to Whirlpool with any questions or cosmetic defects as soon as possible!
The remaining 11 (or 23, depending on where you purchased your appliance) months of your warranty coverage is strictly repair coverage. Whirlpool will not cover any cosmetic issues, or pay for someone to come show you how your appliance works. This means if you call Whirlpool with a problem, and the service provider they send determines the appliance is working fine, you are responsible for the service call fee for that company. If there is a cosmetic issue that does not affect the function of your appliance, you would be responsible for the entire cost of the repair. Whirlpool will not pay for any issues that originate outside of the appliance. (Example, electrical issues in the home, plumbing issues in the home, etc) If this is found to be the cause of your appliance malfunction, you are responsible for the service call fee. Consumable items, lightbulbs, water filters, and air filters are not covered under warranty, and neither is food loss in the event of a product failure. If there is a repair needed, Whirlpool pays for both parts and labor for that repair no questions asked.
Some parts on your machine may be covered under an additional 5 or even 10 year warranty. This means if those parts break or stop working in your appliance, Whirlpool will pay for those specific parts to be replaced even after your 1 year warranty expires. You would be responsible for any labor charges associated with this repair. Please refer to your appliance manual or call Whirlpool customer service to see what parts would be covered for your specific appliance.
Doing the following things voids your Whirlpool warranty:
Removing the serial number/model number sticker voids the warranty for your appliance.
. Repairs to parts or systems resulting from unauthorized modifications made to the appliance.
. Damage resulting from accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, fire, flood, acts of God, improper installation, installation not in accordance with electrical or plumbing codes, or use of consumables or cleaning products not approved by Whirlpool.
. Repairs when your major appliance is used for other than normal, single-family household use or when it is used in a manner that is contrary to published user or operator instructions and/or installation instructions.
